AERMP is the foremost professional body for risk management practice in Nigeria. We are an independent, not-for-profit institute, duly registered and approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria (under the Company and Allied Matters Act 1990) to set professional standards in enterprise risk management practice among the practitioners in all industries and sectors (both private and public).
Through our well recognized qualifications supported by constant training and very deep research in Enterprise Risk Management, we are raising professional standards among the practitioners and also creating a culture of risk awareness within organizations thereby promoting excellence in managing risk to improve organisational performance.
Due to the relevance of ERM practice in all industries, our membership is well spread to both the financial and non financial sectors. In the Nigerian financial industry our members are well placed in their various institutions among which are our partners and regulators in the money and capital markets, that is, the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Nigerian Stock Exchange, Security & Exchange Commission etc where they handle various risk management responsibilities and some provide risk leadership in their divisions. Expectedly the increasing interest in membership of various categories by risk practitioners in these institutions is due to the focus of the regulators in entrenching ERM practices necessitated by the current global emphasis on Basel Accord Implementation and Risk Based approaches to regulation in accordance with international best practices. We are equally well represented in most of the Commercial and merchant banks, discount houses, insurance companies, and the leading microfinance institutions in Nigeria.
We regularly engage the government, its agencies and regulatory bodies for policy formulation and this has been value adding. The endorsement of our efforts in promoting risk management competence and professionalism by the regulatory authorities is an attestation to this. We were also once invited to the Presidential Villa by the Federal Government to contribute our quota to managing cyber security risk in Nigeria. This is another affirmation of the recognition of our great Institute’s contribution to national affairs.
Our engagement of risk practitioners in the non financial organizations is equally yielding positive results with the upsurge in interest in our membership by all those who are engaged in handling risk and related responsibilities across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors and the MSMEs. Our members work in manufacturing companies, real estate, telecommunications, energy and utilities, commodities, the health sector, agricultural, FMCG among others.
At the International level, we are in strategic partnership with the leading risk management institute in UK, the Institute of Risk Management IRM. We also recently established a working relationship with the foremost Fred Arditti Centre for Risk Management at the prestigious De Paul University in USA. We are a member of the technical committee that participated in the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria CIBN /GARP Global Association of Risk Professionals collaboration arrangement aimed at furthering competency in risk management education and practice in Nigeria. More collaborations are ongoing at the local and international levels.
You are welcome to the Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals, AERMP, the Nigerian’ Risk University.
